Class Unity condemns the military occupation of Palestine and the response by the United States government, whose political and economic support of Israel only aids a deadly pursuit of material wealth and power.
As of the time of this writing, more than 11,100 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the October 7 invasion of Israel, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. As an organization that stands in solidarity with the interests of the working class, we recognize that United States intervention is intertwined with corporate interests and that monetary aid serves as a direct subsidy to US arms manufacturers, further entrenching the military-industrial complex both here, and in Israel.
So far, the House and Senate have both authorized $14.3 billion in aid to Israel, on top of the $3.8 billion annual funding we provide for their military and missile defense systems. For context, that funding is enough to repeat Biden’s financial support for the people of Hawaii affected by the August wildfires 142 times over. It is enough to give $890 to every household on food stamps, or $1,917 to every household on food stamps with one or more children.
Additionally, the US has actively stalled efforts to provide humanitarian aid on the global stage, most recently standing as one of only two Western nations to vote against the United Nations resolution to protect both Israeli and Palestinian civilians.
Class Unity calls for an immediate ceasefire to limit the loss and destruction already faced by both parties, along with an end to military aid to Israel, to avoid expansion into broader conflict. We stand firmly against the capitalist system that rewards disregard for human life and in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in the US and abroad.
